Minimum specs to run cheetah...

Hi

Thanks 2 Jeff for introducing me to cheetah via PPB...

Having seen some of the amazing renders this software can produce, I've decided to buy a mac just to have a go. Initially, I'm only looking at commiting a modest budget so looking @ second hand mac options.

Would something like a Power Mac G4d 1.25 GHz with 1.25 GB RAM be upto the challenge? Or will I find it so frustratingly slow, that its probably worth saving up for a G5. The mac mini would be another option...

ANy thoughts on this would be welcomed...from a windoze user:p

PS. Not the place, but any mac advise would be helpful;)

Seems like a dream-machine to me. Maybe an intelMacMini with bootcamp for a "homefeeling" would be nice. Somewhere in this forum are some benchmarkthreads, if you like.
And: you will need the Tiger of course to run Cheetah3d3.x

Hi,
the minimum system requirement for Cheetah3D 3.x is Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and 16 MByte VRAM. If you don't have Mac OS X 10.4 I still offer Cheetah3D 2.6.1 for download which also runs on Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Jaguar).

Here is the thread with some speed comparisons of various Macs.

Intel Macs in general perform very well. But I also know users who still use a G3.
