Import/Export

Import/Export

No one tool (in my price range) gives me all of the tools I need. Cheetah3d is AWSOME, but lacks a few features that I need...
SO...
I need to go back and forth between Cheetah and Blender3d.
Any suggestions on Import/export formats to keep everything happy?

Thanks,
Danny

Hi,
this is a well known problem, but there doesn't exist a file format which allows to move all scene properties from one app to another. The feature spectrum of all the various 3D apps is just too differnent.

I'm not very used to Blender, since I haven't played around with it for quite some time. The last Blender version I have on my disc is 2.34 and the only way to move data to Blender seems to be .obj. Cheetah3D can export .mtl files (which include the material settings) but can't read them yet. So that might be also not to comfortable.

The 3D file format with the biggest industry acceptance at the moment is FBX. All major 3D packages support it today. The next update of Cheetah3D will also offer an FBX loader. So that might be a good solution. But I'm not sure if there exist a FBX loader for Blender. Maybe someone wrote a plug-in.
