Halloween Animation (I made for the MOPAR car club I belong to)...

I took some time off from working on my animation about 2 bugs that get stuck in wet paint, to work on this Halloween animation I did for the car club I belong to...

The whole "MOPAR Or No Car (Halloween)" animation took me 3 weeks and a total of 130 hours to complete - There were a lot of things I had to re-do several times as I made a lot of timeline mistakes (and a glitch-bug with spline tracking target getting removed after some sort of action, not sure of the root cause for that).

For folks not familiar with the "MOPAR or no car" phrase, it was a popular saying in the United States among Muscle Car owners and enthusiasts back in the 70's (maybe before) and still is popular today - Used by Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth car owners to make a statement about their loyalty to the car brand. The word "MOPAR" came from Chrysler's parts division, short for "Motor Parts".

I got the Cemetery model scene with tombstones and graves from SketchFab, but altered some parts and the layout for my video. The Dodge Demon Challenger model I got from SketchFab and altered it and fixed some issues with it (added solid-color emissive glow for the center headlight rings and logos). I got a woman model ("old lady model") from Turbosquid to make the witch and altered the face to make the witches long nose, re-colored the UV Image to make her Green with Green eyes, added a hat and the broomstick model I got from SketchFab (made some minor adjustments to that model too). The model for the Pumpkin Head guy I got from SketchFab, removed his human head and added the Pumpkin head (solid-color emissive glow for eyes and mouth), re-rigged for my purposes, changed the UV Image colors (to make a dark red coat and gloves, blue shirt) . I re-used the tombstones and graves and one tree + some other trees and items from another free model scene for the title screen shot. I got the Skeleton from TurboSquid, added solid-color emissive glow for eye glow. I created the moon, traffic cones, and street lights.

I did the title and ending screen text effects created in Apple's Motion app. The base background Halloween music/sound effects were purchased from iTunes, but I layered with additional sound effects in GarageBand. I created the Skull Portal sound effects. The final movie was put together/processed using Apple's iMovie.

The skeleton laugh in the race scene, is Vincent Price laughing from the end of Michael Jackson's 1982 "Thriller" song. I did the "Mopar or no Car" voice and added sound effects to it in GarageBand. The Dodge Demon Challenger race audio is from the Dodge Demon Ringtone found on the Dodge Garage Website's download area.

Lots of hard work and attention to detail in this piece. Loved the flying skulls transition to the muscle car. The pumpkin head guy flagging the start of the race is a nice touch. Obviously a lot of passion went into this. The only small critique I can offer for your next animation is to study up on the graph editor. Some of the movements seem a bit stiff and learning how to pull the curves to ease in and out will help. Nicely done!

Kurt,
Thank you for the feedback...

I was in a Super-hurry to get the Halloween animation done in time, since I came up with the idea and the drive to get it done just 3 weeks ago... I spent a lot of time removing a lot of extra timeline animation stuff and scenes that I had as I found myself going overboard and there were other personal life things that took up time and left me in a hurry...

For the skeleton in the car arm movement-swing animation, with the default in-tangent and out-tangent "smooth" F-Curve, his arm was dropping down and going through the car door, so I change the curves to Linear... For the other character poses, I left the "smooth" F-Curves. The witch flying using a spline needed to be done better - the opening scene spline patch for the witch was really bad, I read on this forum about changing the "Approximation Angle" on the spline to smooth it out... I also wanted to add a "ease-in"/slow down for the witch when she got to the end of the spline in the main scene, but ran out of time.

Anyhow, my goal is to work on the what you noted about the curves - and to learn more about the "12 principles of Animation" (squash, stretch, etc) - So, up until I got sidetracked with the Halloween animation, I was working on an animation where I was working to do those things and other things better (camera, lighting, make my own character models, uv map and texture, etc), to take the time (no hurry) to make things better and learn more - So, I'm now going to get back to that animation, which is about 2 bugs that go off to visit a friend, but their car won't start so they walk and take a shortcut and get stuck in wet paint on a wall (there's more to the story)...

So, I was reading things, and watching some videos, which I'll get back to now... Here's some of the educational items I found:

Thank you,

I think it's really quite amazing what you've completed in such a short time, Brian!
And your bug story also sounds pretty elaborate, but interesting. I'm really excited about it!

Thank you.... I hope to get back on the Bug story animation in a couple of days, after a taking break. I got side-tracked again on Sunday and Monday working on a quick "Congratulations" animation for my Niece, who gave birth to a baby boy last Thursday. I ended up working on it until 4:00AM today (Tuesday) and sent her the video link today. The animation had a Stork flying with a baby in a baby blanket bundle in its' mouth, clouds floating in the background, then a close up of the baby waving and wiggling its' feet - and added music of a Glockenspiel playing "Rock a Bye Baby".

I used MMounteer's (@MMounteer ) "Candy Wrapper Modeling" tutorial/technique to create the Baby Blanket bundle.

I got the baby model and stork model as Free, from SketchFab.

Awesome! I'm so glad you applied what I was demonstrating in that tutorial, that's so cool and I love the application. And the blanket turned out great BRAVO!
