Making wood look like wood

Being brand new to Cheetah, I have a simple question. I'm trying to duplicate the wood cylinder shown in the Example 1 of the Material Tag help page. All I get is a cylinder that is color 2 of the wood properties. How do I get the woodgrain effect?

Thanks for your help!

At first: Welcome to Cheetah3D and the Cheetah3D forum!! :D

download some Textures (wood textures) and apply the wood-texture to your material.
You can find good textures here: http://www.mayang.com/textures/

cheers,

Hi darl,
welcome. You probably meant the wood shader. OpenGL can't preview that complex shader. To see the woodgrain , etc you have to render the object.

Thanks to both of you for the quick reply. Now more beginner questions.

1. How do you delete or remove a material from an object?

2. How do you delete a material? The tutorial mentions the material browser, but I do not understand how to make materials appear in a browser.

to delete a material from an object, just select the "material-icon" which is behind the object in the menu.

to delete a complete material, just click the icon with the three marble-balls, in the upper menu (or if you dont can see it, click the double arrow and choose "Material drawer".
then select one material and click delete key (the one with on the keyboard with the arrow, my English is not that good)
